Mabel Bassett Correctional Center Overview

Mabel Bassett Correctional Center, often shortened to MBCC, is operated by the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. It is a state prison in McLoud, not a Pottawatomie County jail. ODOC's August 2025 fact sheet describes it as a multi-function facility for female inmates, a minimum- and medium-security prison, and the reception and assessment center for all females incarcerated in Oklahoma. It also houses women who require specialized medical or mental-health care.

The facility includes Mabel Bassett Assessment and Reception Center, known as MBARC. Women sentenced to Oklahoma prison receive a 10- to 30-day assessment there to determine facility assignment and program criteria. That is different from county jail booking. A county jail booking starts after an arrest and handles local custody. MBCC intake follows conviction and state-prison commitment, even if a woman was first held at the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center or another county jail.

ODOC's August 2025 Mabel Bassett fact sheet says the facility houses more than 1,200 inmates. Prisoners of the Census listed Mabel Bassett at 1,030 people on June 30, 2012. Those numbers should not be merged into the local county jail population because MBCC custody is statewide state-prison custody. A woman housed there may have been convicted in any Oklahoma county, while a woman arrested in Pottawatomie County may be sent to another ODOC facility after assessment.

The population also differs by custody purpose. Mabel Bassett holds minimum- and medium-security inmates, a reception and assessment population, women needing specialized medical or mental-health services, and Oklahoma's female death row inmate according to the ODOC fact sheet. Searchers should avoid treating the MBCC population as a list of current Pottawatomie County arrests.

How to Search MBCC Inmates

Use the ODOC Offender Lookup for Mabel Bassett Correctional Center. The county jail roster is for the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center and does not track state-prison inmates after transfer. ODOC warns that lookup data are abbreviated and not meant to provide a full explanation of offense, sentence details, or time to be served. Mabel Bassett Correctional Center Visits

MBCC visitation follows ODOC rules, not county jail visiting rules. The ODOC visitation page says visits must be scheduled and walk-ins are not accepted. Requests must be received by Wednesday at 1 p.m.; changes or additions after that point require facility administration authorization. Visitors must submit an application, and background checks are required for visitors 18 and older. Approval can take up to 90 days.

ODOC policy limits approved visitor lists to 20 people, with children under 18 not counted toward that total. No more than five approved visitors may visit at one time. Security level affects weekly maximum visiting hours, so a minimum-security inmate and a medium-security inmate may not have the same visit-hour cap. MBCC Mail, Phone, and Money

General ODOC mail must include the inmate name and ODOC number and follow ODOC's digital-mail processing rules unless an exception applies. Legal mail, books, and approved publications should still be sent to the facility under ODOC rules. That distinction matters because sending ordinary personal mail to the wrong place can delay delivery or lead to rejection.
